FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Soul Midwifery?

Soul Midwifery is the gentle, heart-centered practice of accompanying someone on a Soul level through life’s final transition and other major transitions. Just as a birth midwife supports the arrival of a physical being into the world, a Soul Midwife offers presence, compassion, and companionship to the Soul at life’s entry and exit points. It is not about medical care, treatment or even counselling— rather, it is about tending to the Spirit, the emotions, and the need for dignity, comfort, and peace. A Soul Midwife listens deeply, holds space without judgment, and creates an atmosphere of calm reverence for the person and their loved one. This work honours the sacredness of personal journey, reminding us that even in times of great change, we are not alone. A Soul Midwife is there to walk beside, to witness, and to act as a reminder of your significance. My particular services in Soul Midwifery aim to work with the journey of the Soul through times of crisis and after trauma as well as end-of-life transition, in this way I midwife the Soul at many different life transitions, not just in death. This is why I specifically serve those who have lost a loved one suddenly, as the shock of that has an impact on the Soul of the living as well as the one who has transitioned. I also work with the Souls trying to come into Earth with pregnancy loss and fertility journey spaces (inner child energy work) because emotional trauma from the past can leave our energy in a scattered state, in this way Soul midwifery can positively benefit the energy centres that you might be familiar with, such as the base and sacral chakras in the case of fertility journeys. Working on an inner child level means working with your Soul when it was at its most vulnerable state and creating a space to facilitate healing releases. You can see from my services what other spaces that I offer in service to your Soul.

What if the loss I suffered was years ago?

How we experience time here on Earth is largely down to societal conditioning. Reference points are useful, but linear time is not something that is applicable to the journey of Souls, or the journey of grief. It doesn’t matter when you experienced a sudden loss, I can still accompany you on your journey.

What is Psychopomp work?

Psychopomp work is the sacred practice of accompanying souls as they journey from this world to the next. The word psychopomp comes from ancient traditions, where it described a guide who helps souls navigate the passage between realms. In modern spiritual practice, psychopomp work is about gently supporting the soul’s transition with reverence, compassion, and respect. It may involve offering prayers, rituals, or simply holding space with loving intention — creating a sense of safety and peace for the one who is moving on. This work is not about forcing outcomes or directing where a soul should go, but rather about walking alongside, offering guidance and presence, and honouring the mystery of the passage. Psychopomp work reminds us that the journey of the soul is sacred, and that even in times of departure, there is companionship and care. There are many guides from other traditions who fulfil this role such as Anubis from Ancient Egyptian times, Hecate, Arch Angels - they are all different cultural ways of expressing what is essentially the same energy - that of accompaniment through the next realm of existence after our lives here. I work with these guides as prompted to serve the transitioned Soul in a way that honours them and I am culturally sensitive to the different ways that there are to honouring and expressing grief and holding the soul. I act as a bridge from this world to the next and an anchor, with an energy that is in service rather than directive. I have my own guides who in turn hold and support me in this work.

Is psychopomp work the same as mediumship?

Not quite. Mediumship focuses on communicating with loved ones who have passed. Psychopomp work is more about guiding and supporting the soul itself as it journeys onward — creating a safe, peaceful passage.

Do you communicate with the dead in this work?

Psychopomp work does involve sensing or listening to the needs of the soul, and to the guides and ancestors in Spirit who may come through to request a particular action, but it is not about holding conversations or messages in the way that mediumship is. It is a quieter, more sacred form of companionship and guidance. I have always had a natural connection to Spirit and I consider that I am in service to Spirit, not my own needs, ego or anything like that. I work hard to make sure that I have as a clear a channel to Spirit as I can, which involves working on my emotions and intentions on a daily basis to process the things that can inhibit energy work. I maintain a daily Spiritual practise.

Is psychopomp work religious?

Psychopomp work is spiritual, but not tied to any one religion. It honours all paths and beliefs, meeting people where they are. The emphasis is always on compassion, respect, and love. Psychopomp work involves working with the Guides who assist the transition of the Soul and these are specific to the beliefs of the individual. If the person concerned was not religious or spiritual in any way then that would not alter how they are affected by energy - and ultimately the energies being sent to them of love - this is really what psychopomp work involves - channeling this love for the benefit of the Soul.

How is psychopomp work different from Soul Midwifery?

The Soul Midwifery that I offer is for both the Soul of the living and those who have transitioned to the after life. Psychopomp work is the aspect of Soul work for those in the afterlife and continues that care beyond the physical, accompanying the soul as it moves onward. The two roles are deeply connected, like two halves of the same circle of care, this is why it is an aspect of what I do when tending to those who have suddenly passed over.

Can psychopomp work help a loved one who has already passed?

Yes. Psychopomp work can be offered after someone has died, to support their soul’s journey. It is an act of love and blessing, often bringing comfort to those who remain as well.

Do you decide where a soul goes after death?

No. A psychopomp does not direct or control the soul’s destination. Instead, the role is simply to be a companion — offering guidance, prayer, or light along the way — while honouring the mystery of the soul’s path.

Is psychopomp work safe?

Yes. The work is carried out with care, respect, and protective spiritual practices. It is gentle and always guided by compassion and intention. I would not work in a way that is dangerous or unprotected by the Guides who I work with.

Do you need permission from the person (or family) to do psychopomp work?

Yes. Permission is an important part of the work. If the person is alive but approaching transition, their consent is essential. If they have already passed, I seek the blessing of their family or loved ones before beginning.

Can psychopomp work bring comfort to the living as well as to the departed?

Absolutely. Many people find deep peace in knowing their loved one’s journey is being supported with tenderness and care. It can ease feelings of fear or helplessness.

What does a psychopomp session look like?

Sessions may involve prayer, meditation, ritual, or energetic practices carried out on behalf of the soul. Sometimes this is done in silence, sometimes with the use of symbolic tools such as candles, crystals, or sound. Each session is unique, shaped by the needs of the moment. Typically I would perform a small ceremony for your loved one during a session and then continue to hold space for them afterwards.

Do I need to be present when you do this work?

Not necessarily. Psychopomp work is often done remotely, with intention and spiritual connection, though families may choose to take part in ritual or prayers if they wish.

Can psychopomp work support animals as well as humans?

Yes. Many practitioners, myself included, also offer gentle guidance for animals making their transition. Animals are deeply soulful beings and are honoured with the same care and love.

How do you prepare yourself for this kind of work?

I prepare through prayer, meditation, grounding practices, and spiritual protection. This ensures I can hold the work with clarity, compassion, and respect, keeping the focus fully on the soul I am accompanying.

What if I’m not sure I “believe” in this — can it still help?

Yes. You don’t need to hold any particular belief for psychopomp work to be offered, there are many people who have never heard of it. Many see it as a simple act of blessing, love, and respect for the one who has passed — and that intention alone can bring comfort. At the end of the day it is about sending a focused energy to the Soul of love and blessings as well as forgiveness and reconciliation, all to ease the transition.
